Animal Health Certificate Service
We're here to help make the process of travelling with your pet smooth and stress-free. Our team can provide all the documentation you need to travel safely with your pet, whether you're heading to Europe or further afield.

What is an Animal Health Certificate?
An Animal Health Certificate (AHC), sometimes referred to as a dog passport or pet passport, is an official document required for pet travel, confirming that your pet meets health and vaccination requirements for the country you’re travelling to. Following Brexit, AHCs replaced the pet passport system for travel from Great Britain to the EU.

Our pet travel services include:
  • Full pre-travel health checks
  • Required vaccinations and treatments
  • Microchipping (required before rabies vaccination for travel)
  • Completion of all necessary paperwork
  • Advice on destination-specific requirements
  • Guidance on pet-friendly travel options

What to expect at your appointment
When you visit us for a pet travel appointment, our vet will check your pet's health, verify their microchip, and ensure all vaccinations are up to date. We'll help you understand the specific timing requirements for your destination, as regulations can vary by country.

Planning ahead
Different destinations have different requirements, and some need planning several months in advance. For example, travel to the EU requires a rabies vaccination at least 21 days before departure. For travel to non-EU countries like Australia or the USA, the process may take much longer.

How long are Animal Health Certificates valid for?
  • Entry into the EU within 10 days of issue
  • Onward travel within the EU for four months
  • Re-entry to Great Britain for four months
Which pets can travel?
Dogs, cats, and ferrets can travel with the appropriate documentation. Other pets may require different permits.

Any other considerations?
If you're travelling directly to Finland, Ireland, Malta, Northern Ireland, or Norway, your dog must receive a tapeworm treatment one to five days before arrival.
